Dean Castle Stonework Tours 19/04/2019 - 20/03/2020
Dean Castle Country Park
Book a tour of the restoration project at Dean Castle. Find out about how the Castle’s stonework is being repaired and access areas that have been closed for some time. Meet the Visitor Centre in the Country Park to hear about the history of the Castle and its inhabitants. Then join CBC Stone’s Project Manager for a tour of the restorations, including the battlements, Laigh Tower and Great Hall.

Since the Castle is a live building site, there are some stipulations and health and safety rules which must be followed and these are explained at the start of every tour. The tour also involves climbing around 80 steps in quite confined spaces and therefore if you are claustrophobic or have health concerns this may not be the ideal tour for you. But if you are fit and over 18 years of age it is well worth coming along. If you would be interested in taking the tour, which is free, the next one will take place on 19th April and then 4 weekly thereafter. Tours are from 11.30am-1pm, please show tickets at the visitor centre.

Numbers for tours are limited to a maximum of 10 adults. If you book tickets but are no longer able to attend the tour, please contact 01563 554300 as there may be a waiting list for places.

Threads of Life 21/11/2019 - 21/11/2019
Dick Institute
For the past thirty years, I have been involved with textiles as a community artist, exhibition curator and banner maker. In 1986, I set up ‘Needleworks’ in Glasgow working with people of all ages and cultures, using sewing to celebrate local history, document community experiences and share personal concerns through the creation of wall hangings and banners.

I undertake textile commissions and organise sewing projects throughout Scotland. The most recent project has been Community Matters where ten people stitched small wall hangings to capture the stories of textiles that were precious to them. On my website you can read about the project and explore some of the themes of my book ‘Threads of Life’. I hope you enjoy the discovery

Neil Oliver: The Story of the British Isles in 100 places 29/11/2019 - 29/11/2019
Grand Hall
‘The Story of Britain in a Hundred Places’

‘I love Britain. I used to take the place for granted. Over the years I’ve learned how big a mistake that was. More recently I’ve wondered how many of us realise what a special place this is, how lucky we are. I’ve been round and round the edge, all over the interior. I’ve seen it all from land, sea and sky. Sometimes I think I’ve seen more of Britain than anyone else. A land shaped by ice, weather and us. A million years of human lives. Now I have my favourite places and together they have a story to tell – my own, unique story of Britain.’
Neil qualified as an archaeologist in 1988 and has also trained and worked as a journalist on publications such as The Scotsman, The Herald, The Guardian, The Edinburgh Evening News and The Daily Record, providing invaluable experience for when, in 2002 his career as a television broadcaster began. BBC 2’s Two Men in a Trench saw Neil and his friend Tony Pollard visit historic British battlefields and recreate the battle situation using state-of-the-art technology. Following this, in 2005 Neil joined the team on the highly acclaimed BBC2 series Coast and in 2006 he stepped into the role of lead presenter. This has shaped his career to date and Neil’s TV credits have been steadily building, and he continues to present both Coast Australia and Coast New Zealand. Neil lives in Scotland with his wife and three children.

The West End smash hit comes to town starring giants of Rock 'n' roll - Eddi Cochran, Gene Vincent , Billy Fury and Buddy Holly.

In 1960 American rockers Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent flew in from the states and were joined by British heartthrob Billy Fury for the UK's very first multi-artist rock 'n' roll tour. Reviewers were appalled by the onstge antics. Audiences screamed their approval. British youth culture was born.

Relive these seminal concerts in the company of incredible singers and a band tighter than a pair of your tightest drainpipe trousers.
And there's more, Buddy Holly's live tours were equally responsible for introducing rock 'n' roll to the UK.

From Cochran's legendary guitar riffs, Vincents menacingly moody stage presence, Fury's smouldering looks and soaring vocals and Holly's good time rock n roll anthems, Be Bop A Lula is a real doozer of a stage show.

Twin Atlantic Seating 07/03/2020 - 07/03/2020
Grand Hall
Since forming in March 2007, Twin Atlantic have become idols amongst their peers - the daddies of the underground rock scene. And you don't even need to listen past the opening riff of 'Audience and Audio' - the first track on their recently self-released debut EP - to understand how and why.

It's not just the combination of ridiculously melodic and poetic song-writing, with an ambition, determination and maturity far greater than their young years should allow. And it's not just about being brave enough to have songs with cello in them, or covering Cyndi Lauper's 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' so well that only a nut would call it novelty. And they're not just another growly band with a few good beards and a poster boy singer.

With riffs and choruses that will stick in your head for an age, they can play hard and fast and loud like the best hard, fast and loud bands, then instantly flip the switch and have a packed venue waving lighters to their softer side. And they can crowdsurf in Edinburgh - something much bigger touring bands have tried and failed at.

UK rock has found a brave new voice and it is distinctly Scottish.

Nathan Carter and his Band 2020 Tour 26/04/2020 - 26/04/2020
Grand Hall
Kennedy Street Enterprises
Nathan Carter
And his band
plus support
Start Time - 7:30pm

Nathan Carter is a sensation! In Ireland he outsold One Direction, Pharrell Williams and Michael Buble, and became the first country act to reach number one in the Irish charts in 2013 after Garth Brooks, six years before.

He is an exciting feature on the UK Country scene, and once again tops the Irish charts with his fifth album ‘Where I Wanna Be’ which features his unique blend of Celtic, country and pop! Not bad for the cherubic former head choir boy who sang for Pope John Paul ll in Rome.

Currently on tour in Scotland, he will soon bring his tour bus to Wales and England which culminates in a sold-out London Palladium date on the 28th May.

Nathan was born on 28th May 1990, growing up in Liverpool. His family originate from Newry in County Down.He soon leaned to play the accordion and trips to Ireland to compete in Fleadh Ceoil’s became a regular feature of young Nathan’s life, and by the age of 12 he won All Ireland medals for singing, and the accordion. Nathan soon became a member of the Liverpool Ceili band, playing accordion and piano, and solo performances soon followed in Liverpool and Ireland.

On a trip to Donegal in 2009, Nathan was appearing in concert in Buncrana, where he met with songwriter John Farry. So impressed was Farry that representation soon followed and the rest, as they say, is history.

Nathan’s recordings include WHERE I WANNA BE (no. 1), BEAUTIFUL LIFE (no. 1), ‘STAYIN’ UP ALL NIGHT’ which topped the Irish chart and reached the top 20 in the UK. THE WAY THAT YOU LOVE ME, TIME OF MY LIFE, THE LIVE SHOW, Audio CD & DVD. WAGON WHEEL CD, which saw him sign with Decca Records. The video single to ‘Wagon Wheel’, has generated more than a million hits on YouTube.

A word that perfectly describes Gary’s last twelve months. He started the year performing in comedy clubs, and ended it selling out big theatres in the UK as well as tours in America, Canada and Europe!

Not one for mincing his words, Gary has been described as “playfully dark”. As always, Gary will draw material from his own real-life experiences, including his unique family dynamic and his rapid rise to online fame. Quickly putting his audiences at ease, a night of stand up with Gary feels like a night in the pub chatting with friends!

Having performed to tens of thousands of people over the past year, Gary has found a new confidence and level of openness on stage, meaning he doesn’t hold back on giving his opinions, no matter how warped! The new show will cover topics such as evolution, social media, how to deal with burglars, single mums, bee sex, small man syndrome and much more. Gary is a fast paced, punchy storyteller that finds the funny in anything!
