The legendary Richard Ingrams, co-founder and editor of Private Eye and founding editor of The Oldie, has written an inspiring biography about his friend and hero, Ludovic Kennedy. A senior member of Ayrshire’s Kennedy clan, he was one of the most brilliant journalists and broadcasters of his day, married to the film star ballerina, Moira Shearer.
In Ludo and the Power of the Book, Ingrams charts Kennedy’s 'lifelong obsession with miscarriages of justice' and his dogged campaigns to set the record straight in cases such as the unjust death penalty for Derek Bentley and the hanging of Timothy Evans, falsely accused of the murders at 10 Rillington Place; another notable campaign was for the release of Patrick Meehan wrongly convicted of a murder in Ayr. Kennedy’s success in exposing some of the most ignominious trials of British justice was hugely influential in the abolition of the death penalty and other legal reforms.
