Philippe Sands, Malcolm Rifkind and Magnus Linklater
Philippe Sands has chronicled the rise of international justice from the ashes of WW2 and has prosecuted criminals against humanity in the courts. He now sounds the alarm for the death of memory as witnesses to atrocities, notably Holocaust survivors, who stood as living testament against the deniers, pass away. As Defence Secretary and Foreign Secretary, Malcolm Rifkind has experience of containing conflict and negotiating peace in the Bosnian war and of high wire diplomacy in the Middle East and Hong Kong – all theatres where long or suppressed memories can serve good and ill.
As investigative journalist and Scottish editor of The Times and of The Scotsman, Magnus Linklater has spent a lifetime reporting news based on hard facts. Now he fears that false news untrammelled by checks or balances is undermining the concept of truth. Lawyer, politician and journalist examine the impact of today’s ferment of lies, half-truths and the loss of memory on the world’s conscience.
Concessions are available to students, registered disabled (plus one carer), registered unemployed, under 16s and Young Scot card holders. Proof of entitlement will be required at the door for all events. Thank you.
