Alexandra Shulman has been at the heart of the world of international fashion for a quarter of a century. The longest serving and most successful editor of Vogue in its 100–year history, she will talk about her life at the magazine.
She kept a riveting diary of the centenary year, hailed by the Sunday Times as "One of the great social diaries of our time . . . a classic”. Inside Vogue covers the emotional and logistical minefield of producing the 100th anniversary issue including the secret planning of that Duchess of Cambridge surprise cover, organising the star-studded Vogue 100 Gala and coping with the continual scrutiny of a television crew making the BBC Television's Absolutely Fashion documentary.
On screen and in print Shulman emerges as modest and grounded, un-phased by having to work with international stars of fashion from Victoria Beckham and Karl Lagerfeld to David Bailey and Kate Moss. Although never one to shirk a fight as befits an editor who has presided over Vogue’s highest ever circulation. Neither is she one to put herself on a pedestal, Shulman’s life is beset by domestic chaos - spontaneous combustion in the kitchen, a temperamental boiler and having to send bin day reminders all the way from Milan fashion week.
